Founder And Winemaker

In 2002, after a career in IT, Bill and a partner built the first commercial temperature controlled wine storage facility in the California Sierra Foothills; El Dorado Wine Storage. For another 10 years, Bill worked with local owners and winemakers as he picked up, stored, and delivered case goods when needed. Here, he had the opportunity to learn his craft, helping in the cellar and picking up winemaking skills from a host of winemakers. He likes to say that he has 30 or so winemakers inside his head and sometimes they get along! In 2010, Bill began to take over the winemaking for Jodar Vineyards & Winery and soon became winemaker and general manager. Many awards for Best of Class, Gold, and Double Gold followed over the years. He specialized in Foothill varietals, such as Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Barbera and the Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. In the spring of 2020, he joined with two partners to begin winery operations. William Gunn Wines now offer 2019 Barbera, 2019 Chardonnay, 2019 Rose’ and a big red blend called “The Boss”.
